Saitama One Punch Man

Saitama is the one punch man main character and the protagonist to the entire story. Saitama is by far the strongest entity in the entire one punch man manga series and his strength is absolutely unrivalled by anyone.

Saitama’s backstory is a simple one. He was a regular man trying to make ends meet and searching for job. One fateful encounter where he saves a child from a crab monster changes his entire outlook on life from where he goes on a strict training regime and go on to become a hero.

Backstory

Saitama, the main character of the one punch man manga, famously known in the story line as the caped baldy and to us as one punch man, hails from the fictional city Z.

Like most of the settings in the storyline, his backstory too is a simple one which was perhaps a satirical dig at other animes and mangas where the main protagonist usually has a long and elaborate struggle story before reaching new heights.

Saitama was a normal young man searching for jobs before he acquired his unreal strength. This is testified on two occasions as follows :

Ball Chinned Kid and Crablante

In a flashback to three years ago from the main story, Saitama is seen walking down the road in a suit after a job interview, where he comes across a crab-human mutant called Crablante. Crablante lets Saitama go but tells him that he is hunting a ball chinned kid who made fun of him.

Walking ahead, Saitama comes across this kid and walks away from him but as soon as Crablante comes to attack him Saitama finds himself saving the kid and fighting Crablante and struggling against him.

Saitama Saves King

Another flashback in season 2 where King reminisces about how he was saved countless times by a random person and how his rise to an S-Rank hero was nothing short of fraudulent. Here, Saitama is seen in his tracksuit all bloodied after a fight with a monster but he reassures King that all is well and he can get up now.

Saitama Training Routine

In the fight with Carnage Kabuto, where the scientist, Kabuto and Genos all enquire about how he gained his overwhelming strength, Saitama had this to say :

100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups,100 squats and a 10km run every single day ! Saitama followed this strict training regimen until he started balding and indeed, saitama with hair in the flashbacks is quite an odd sight.

Saitama’s Appearance

Currently, Saitama’s hair has completely balded out from his head. Saitama looks like an average and normal human being, with an average built body, a bald head, and average height. In no terms does he look to have extraordinary power. When he’s carrying out his hero activities, Saitama usually wears his iconic yellow jump-suit with red gloves and boots and a black belt with a golden emblem on it.

Saitama’s Personality

On the surface it seems as though Saitama is a simple being with overwhelming power. The truth is that Saitama faces an extreme existential crisis.

he suffers from the curse of being the strongest and the extreme sense of isolation that follows. Saitama has stated himself that he feels increasingly distant to his emotions now.

Saitama’s emotions and feelings make him an extremely complex character. Early on he lived as a salaryman and tried to make ends meet and being a hero seemed like a distant dream to him. But his desire to be powerful and a true hero propelled him towards becoming the strongest.

However there are aspects of him that make him incredibly human. Some things make Saitama extremely agitated, such as things not going his way sometimes. This can be seen when Saitama nearly obliterates silver fang when a game in his dojo doesn’t go Saitama’s way.

Saitama has an extremely strong moral compass when it comes to his hero activities. He never hesitated to call other heroes out on their childish antics such as when two tank top disciples shamed him in front of a huge crowd. Also when Fubuki tried to rookie crush him and he schooled her on How rankings do not matter at all. Another instance of his strong character is when he schools King on his antics in season 2 after saving him from the monster that destroyed his apartment.

Saitama’s Strength and Abilities

Well the entire point of the manga is a satirical approach to how main characters in animes and mangas today and since forever, have been portrayed. Saitama possesses overwhelming strength that is said to ‘grow exponentially’ during his fight vs hero hunter Garou in the manga. His strength knows no bounds, as boros the destroyer said that he can sense no limits to Saitama’s strength. Some of his moves include :

Serious Punch

This punch of Saitama is shown to be powerful enough to negate a beam from Boros that was powerful enough to destroy planets.

Serious Consecutive Sideways Jumps

Saitama jumps side to side at pace that creates 100 afterimages of himself while fighting Speed O Sound Sonic in Season 2 of the Anime.
